The Brewers are sure struggling right now. First there hitting went away, then their defense. I was hoping that the chase would be competitive but unless things turn fast, the Crew seems intent and just giving it away.

With the Brewers lack of run production as of late, 13 runs in 6 games if my math is any good, the bullpen won't even be a factor.

The Beloit Snappers are the low A class affiliate of the Oakland Athletics. Two years ago they were the Twins affiliate, and before that they were the Brewers affiliate. The Brewers low A team is now the Timber Rattlers.

At one time relay throws were considered from the infielders. Upon testing though, it was decided that the extra time calculating another modifier didn't have a significant impact on game play. So relays were not used. Just to illustrate, say the outfielders AR is 8 and the infielder making the relay throws AR was 5. How the relay would have worked is to add both fielders AR's and divide by 2, then round up. ie. 8 + 5/2 rounded up = 7. Spending the time to do that to change the AR rating by 1 was not deemed worthwhile. Seldom would an AR be changed by more than 3. With the small % of throws that would have an impact, the calculation of the infield relay was dropped.
The infielders still have a AR rating though because an infielder can play in the outfield in an emergency situation. Then his AR would be used as if her were an outfielder. Hope that explains it.

Brewers acquired Jonathan Broxton from the Reds for two players to be named later. Based on the Brewer BP's performance as of late, this is too little too late. It looks as though Seth Smith and Zach Duke are just worn down. Smiths ERA is now actually over 4.0 and continues to rise. Yet he keeps getting put out in high leverage innings. Gozelanny has been one of the most consistent pitchers as of late but is rarely used. From my vantage point the Brewers are always a bit slow to change things up and seem to drive BP arms into the ground late in the year.

Was a beautiful day for baseball today so went to Beloit for a Snapper game. They lost 13-2 to the Timber Rattlers. There must have been some promotion because there was a line to turn in vouchers for tickets before the game. I have never seen a line that long there unless there was some type of give away. In spite of the lopsided score, had a good time with my dad. Couple beers and a slice of pizza sitting in the front row. Then listened to the Brewers get crushed 15-5 by the Giants on the drive home. There must be something in the water as 2 days earlier the Giants beat the Brewers 13-2, same score as the Beloit game today.

That is a good point. I did consider having a modifier that would add a variable to how often a runner may attempt to steal. It would have been based on exactly what you describe, the respect that base runners have for a catchers arm, thus limiting their steal attempts. I just felt that I already have a fair number of optional rules, and at some point extra rule sets become cumbersome.
Molina tends to be the exception. I decided against adding an additional variable that might only apply to 3 or 4 catchers in the league.
If you want you could add the 'Molina Rule' to your Cardinal games. Here it goes: When Molina is catching, divide any base runners SBR value by 2 and then round up. This would reduce steal attempts off Molina by 50%, which would be closer to real life.

cardinalnation is correct in that OF positioning is for Basic and advanced games. That table inside the front cover may seem a bit overwhelming when just starting out. The reason the table was placed inside the front cover was that it was only place it could appear in the manual and be printed in color.
Anytime one of the unique OF positions are used, a separate die roll is required only for specific outcomes on odd BODR die results. For example, when playing with 5 infielders and 2 outfielders, a BODR outcome of 1B would need an Outfield Position Roll if the BODR die result was odd. This new roll determines if the 1B stands or is changed to a ground out to the 5th infielder instead. It can also turn into a 2B if the single goes to the vacated outfield.
Playing with a 5th infielder would rarely be used. Its an act of desperation when the runner on 3rd represents the winning run in say the 9th inning. Outfield positioning really does not have an impact on overall stats. It can however impact a single game heavily. It adds some of the cat and mouse aspects to the game.
I wouldn't recommend using OF positioning until a player has several dozen games under their belt.

Even though Molina's career throw out percentage is 17 higher than league average, in 2011 it was only 1% above average. There are certain ratings that take several seasons into account, but catcher arm rating only considers the current season. The caught stealing rate for individual pitchers is used together with the catchers AR rate. Using just that seasons ratings ensures that the proper % of base runners are thrown out. This is the line between simulation and game. The problem with allowing base runners to attempt to steal whenever the player/manager wants to is two fold. First, there are players that have a base steal success rate of 100% but only steal 2 bases during a full season. Allowing those types of players to steal at will would throw off the balance of the game. It would lead to more runners in RISP, hence more runs scored per game..etc.
The second thing that is going on, is often the players that have a high steal success rate but low steal attempts are getting their stolen bases from botched hit and runs. Where the batter misses the pitch and the hit and run turns into a steal attempt instead.
The way TTL Baseball handles steals is the base runners will get very close to real world results. In both attempts and actual steals. In that regard, design leaned more towards a simulation. There are several things that the player/manager can do if they want more control over steal attempts. One can always put on more hit and runs when the runner on 1st has a high stolen base success chance. Myself, I don't like to put on too many H & R's. At least I don't use any more of them than would be used in an actual game.
If you didn't mind losing some of the accuracy, you could add house rules for steal attempts. For example: For runners with an SBR of 20 or above, you could allow them 2 additional steal attempts per series. This could be on top of what they might already attempt from the default rules. Then perhaps runners with an SBR of 5 to 19 could attempt 1 additional steal per series. In this way, more control is given to the player/manager.
